As a young girl growing up in Chinatown, Sharon Lee worked at her Aunts store selling oriental tchotchkes to cost-conscious tourists. This early training set the stage for a long career in retail. Sharon learned to provide a unique product with an interesting history and to close the deal. Sharon then met her soul mate Harry Rosenberg and they ventured out into the world, landing in Sarasota, Florida. In Sarasota they found a community of people who were looking for those exact products from far away and together they filled that need by creating Asian Arts and Decor.
Fast forward 17 years, Hannah Gibbons, who having grown up among the shrines and temples of Tokyo, Japan and NYC, walks into Sharon's store. Sharon and Hannah immediately found a common ground and vision. Hannah then buys Asian Arts and Decor and with Sharon's help and brings the store forward to the next level of their mutual dream.
The dream is a store which is filled with the ambiance of Asia a la Silk Road. Providing customers a peek into all of the exotic stories, teas, art, clothing and furniture of the east. We hope to provide each person who walks into the store a combination of culture and flavor experiences that will enhance their lives and feel happy about their purchases.
In the store you will find mostly reproductions with the occasional antique consignment piece. There are also vintage pieces of clothing, embroideries, prints and furniture. In addition, we have events that are both informative and festive.
We hold Mah Jongg classes every week, lectures on anything from the philosophy of Indian Tantric Spirituality to cooking classes are frequent. We carry books that cover all of the Asian Arts, philosophies, cooking and history. We even have a section on the jewish diaspora communities of Asia.
We hope that our combined experiences and knowledge will make your visit to our store enjoyable. We encourage to come even without the intent of purchasing but to just enjoy the atmosphere and share your stories with us to become part of our collective conscious.
